She got her start in television news just a state over at KOMU-TV8, Mid-Missouri's NBC affilite, where she worked as an anchor and reporter. She spent more than four years at KOMU, where she worked her way up from video and web editor to reporter and anchor. Erica also spent some time as a reporter and anchor for the online video news source, Newsy.
In 2011, she re-visited her Kentucky roots and spent a summer working as an intern for Louisville's CBS affiliate, WLKY. In January 2011, Erica made the top 10 semi-finals in a competition through mtvU and the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences to be a red carpet correspondent at the Oscars. In 2010, she worked for Missouri's Statehouse radio station, Missouri Digital News. During her time at MDN, she worked out of Missouri's State Capitol building as a radio reporter, where stations like St. Louis's top radio station, KMOX, used some of her stories.
Erica studied Radio-Television at the Missouri School of Journalism. She graduated in December 2011 with a broadcast journalism degree and minor in Political Science. She understands the importance of immediacy in the world of journalism and utilizes the web not only as a social media tool, but as an immediate news source. While in the field, Erica updates Twitter and Facebook with photos and the latest information on stories so viewers are able to follow the story as it happens.
